The annual South Burnett and Cherbourg On Show long weekend festival will get underway on Friday … here’s a quick guide to what’s on!
New additions this year include a photography competition offering $2000 in prize money; an art competition offering $8000 in prize money; an RACQ LifeFlight Family Fun Day that will see local councillors and police get dunked; an open air movie night at Goomeri; historical activities and a branding night in Proston.
The South Burnett and Cherbourg On Show festival will feature more than 40 events from Cooyar to Goomeri and Proston, between Friday and Monday.
Most are free or have a modest entry fee, and several culinary events are “pay as you go” affairs at normal prices.
SBCOS president Kathy Duff said she was very excited about this year’s festival, which is designed both to draw visitors to the region, and to encourage local residents to stay in the area rather than head off to Brisbane or the coast.
“Our festival comes at the end of the Spring school vacation when many families are finding their budgets have been stretched, so the focus is on free or low-cost activities,” she said.
“We also have a strong emphasis on family-friendly events where adults can have as much fun as the kids.
“The aim of having so much on offer is not to try to cram everything in, but to give everyone a wide choice about how they can spend their time, and this year I think we really have something for everyone.”
Full details about each event are on the SBCOS website
Event listings can be found by day or by town, and for the benefit of visitors, most have maps.

Through your newspaper, I would like to thank the wonderful residents and retailers of the town of Nanango. We came to town (after two of our number house sat for months) to produce a rally for 300 campervans and motorhomes containing single travellers. The Solo Network of the Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia have thoroughly enjoyed your town and your hospitality just so much and we have left some of our number house sitting. We visited every shop and commercial place in Nanango but not as many residents as we would have liked. Your Councillor, Roz (Frohloff) made suggestions which were accepted. Her office bent over backwards just looking for more ideas. Nanango, take a bow! We loved your town and loved spending time there. We will always feel at home in Nanango. Thank you.
– Elaine Bowles, Rally Manager, Campervan & Motorhome Club of Aust, Solo Network.
