The Heritage Nanango New Year’s Eve Mardi Gras will take on a new look this year.
The Mardi Gras will move from Nanango Showgrounds to Pioneer Park, and organisers say the popular event will have a renewed focus on families.
Instead of loud rock and roll, there’ll be light popular music on the Pioneer Park stage.
There’ll also be inexpensive $2 and $4 amusement rides for children, $6 dodgem cars, free face painting and other activities to keep young ones happily entertained.
Food vendors will dot the park to help fill hungry tummies, and there’ll be tea, coffee and soft drinks available at family-friendly prices, too.
In the interests of promoting a fun and safe entry point to the New Year, alcohol will be banned.
And rather than run beyond midnight as it has the past two years, the Mardi Gras will run from 5:00pm to 10:00pm, with a giant fireworks display between 8:30pm to 9:00pm.
After this, families can return home for an early night while revellers can move on to Nanango’s nearby hotels or RSL to see in the New Year.
The Mardi Gras committee told southburnett.com.au this year’s event is largely organised and they’re looking forward to a fun night out.
The Mardi Gras attracts crowds of up to 5000 and is completely free to attend.
However, some more food vendors would be appreciated to help round out the event’s snack and supper offerings, and any interested vendors can phone Sue on 0411-826-403 to secure a free position in the grounds.
