The State Government’s $400 million Works for Queensland program is about to provide a boost for tourists visiting the Bunya Mountains.

Deputy Premier Jackie Trad announced on Tuesday that Western Downs Regional Council would receive $2.59 million under the scheme to complete nine projects in its region.

Among these will be the construction of a new viewing platform at a Bunya Mountains outlook.

Western Downs Council took over management of Russell Park, Fisher’s Lookout and nearby walking tracks from Wambo Council after the 2008 council amalgamations.

Western Downs Mayor Paul McVeigh said the funding support from the State Government meant Council was able to fast-track projects while also giving an important boost to jobs in the region.

The announcement follows Mrs Trad’s visit to the South Burnett last Friday to announce that the South Burnett’s own list of 28 projects would receive $4.385 million in Works For Queensland funding.
