Keen couples at Cooyar and Upper Yarraman have done well in the annual Garden Competition run in conjunction with the Carnival of Flowers in Toowoomba.

Heather and Neville McNalty, from ‘The Palms’ at Cooyar, took out the top prize in the “Small Homestead Garden” category.

The couple also came second in “Most Sustainable Garden”.

Ray and Glenda Postle, from Upper Yarraman, came third in “Acreage Garden”.

The two couples vied for first place in last year’s “Country Garden” category at the Colours of Yarraman Festival, and will be hot favourites to take out the awards again this year.

They also vied for the top award, with the McNaltys taking home the Champion Garden award and the Postles, runners-up.

The Toowoomba Garden Competition has been running for 68 years and is organised by the Chronicle newspaper.

Hundreds of gardeners from across the whole Toowoomba Council region enter.
