Biloela resident Darren Blackwood has been named as the Australian Labor Party’s candidate for Callide in the upcoming State Election.
Mr Blackwood grew up in Biloela and has spent his entire working life there.
He is married to Karen and the couple has three children, aged 17, 19 and 21.
He began his working life in 1986 at Teys Bros abattoir in Biloela, before moving to Biloela’s Callide thermal coal mine in 1992.
Over the past 25 years, Mr Blackwood has worked as a technician at the mine and for the past 12 years has represented his fellow workers as a CFMEU delegate.
He has previously been involved with the Biloela Rugby Union Club and Biloela Little Athletics.
He says he is extremely passionate about fighting for good secure jobs and fighting the job casualisation that has been destroying the local community.
