FLASHBACK: A fire near Old Esk Road last November destroyed some property and burned for several days before it could be brought under control

August 25, 2017

Two fires which erupted in the South Burnett on Friday kept 11 fire crews busy.

The first fire occurred at Franklin Road in Wattle Camp.

QFES were advised a tree was alight on the property and sent out a fire crew to investigate the situation.

The tree fire soon spread to a vegetation fire, and by 5:15pm two fire crews were on the scene.

Meanwhile, a fire which broke out near the junction of Old Esk Road and Taromeo Rise at Taromeo required more manpower.

At 5:15pm, six fire crews were attending the blaze with another three en route.

No further details about either fire are known at this stage, but QFES have issued a warning that smoke may affect residents and motorists in both areas.

Residents should close their doors and windows and keep medication close by if suffering from a respiratory condition.

They should also call Triple Zero (000) immediately if they believe their property is under threat.

Motorists should use caution and drive to conditions.

UPDATE August 26: Friday’s fire at Wattle Camp has been extinguished, and the fire at Taromeo has been contained.
