The footpath outside the Blackbutt post office was packed to overflowing last month with residents fed up with the problems caused by the 4306 postcode
The 4306 postcode area

The curse of postcode 4306 – the postcode shared by Blackbutt and Benarkin and parts of Ipswich – has struck again.

There have been multiple complaints about Blackbutt residents being unfairly rated for insurance, and residents at the other end of the area failing to get home loans.

This time is is the southern end of the postcode area that is missing out again, on the possibility of cheaper electricity.

Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington said a recent announcement by the State Government claimed a new operator in the Queensland electricity market would be able to provide a 25 per cent electricity discount for customers in south-east Queensland.

However, Mrs Frecklington said the announcement was false, as the discount did not apply to the 4306 postcode.

“Labor claims their deal with CS Energy and Alinta Energy is for south-east Queensland, but it definitely does not cover the whole south-east corner,” Mrs Frecklington said.

“When residents from postcode 4306 check their eligibility, they are excluded from this deal. This is a large area comprising parts of Somerset, Brisbane and the Ipswich region – which are all clearly in south-east Queensland!

“The Somerset areas include Fernvale, Wivenhoe Pocket, Harlin, Moore and Linville. And included in the Ipswich region are Amberley, Blacksoil, Karalee, Karana Downs, Ripley and Willowbank.”

UPDATE August 23: An Alinta Energy spokesperson has told southburnett.com.au that anyone who lives in the old Energex distribution area, regardless of their postcode, can access their offer. People within the Ergon Energy network are excluded.

One Response to "Powerful Problem With Postcode 4306"

  1. Rural Queensland has always, and continues to be, disadvantaged since the deregulation of the retail sector of the electricity industry.

The customers supplied by Energex in the very SE corner of Queensland (3% of the land area of the State) are privileged to have a choice of retailer and the opportunity of competitive electricity charges.

We, in the rural sector of the state, (97% of the land area of Queensland) are supplied by Ergon Energy and have no such choice and therefore continue to subsidise the privileged in the SE corner!!

At least the customers in the Energex-supplied southern area of 4306 postcode continue to have a choice of retailer offering better rates than Ergon, apart from the new 25% discount groups!
