Toowoomba Mayor Paul Antonio welcomed a special delegation of Australia’s South-East Asian Ambassadors and High Commissioners to the region on Sunday.
Ambassadors from Cambodia, Brunei, Indonesia, Laos, the Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam and Thailand met in Toowoomba to gain a better understanding of the region’s capacity as an agricultural centre.
Mayor Antonio said hosting the group was a major coup for the region.
“The Australia-ASEAN Council is tasked with generating opportunities for Australian and ASEAN business, education, science and innovation and the arts,” Mayor Antonio said.
“To be singled out as a regional centre, because of the strength of our economy and agriculture offering, and the resulting opportunities for our region to enhance trade with South-East Asia is fantastic.”
The three-day visit included inspections of major agricultural enterprises.
“People as sitting up and taking notice of Toowoomba, and we plan to seize every opportunity we can,” Mayor Antonio said.
