Police have confirmed that human remains found inside a sunken car at Borumba Dam belong to missing Kenilworth man Stuart Gatehouse.

The submerged Holden Commodore was located by Wondai fisherman Terry Allwood on March 25 who was competing in a Bass fishing competition at the dam.

Mr Allwood was using a depth sounder when he detected a large object near a boat ramp.

The Police Dive Squad attended on April 20 and located a vehicle submerged in the water.

When vehicle was removed from the water, skeletal remains were found inside.

Mr Gatehouse was reported missing in 2004. He was aged 45 at the time.

A police spokesperson said preliminary investigations indicated the death was not suspicious.
