Member for Maranoa David Littleproud has emphasised that Southern Cross Care has made a business decision to cut staff hours at its aged care homes, and it has nothing to do with Federal Government funding.
Southern Cross Care operates the Castra aged care home in Murgon, and Karinya in Nanango.
It is feared that job hours could be cut by as much as 200 at Castra and 100 at Karinya.
Southern Cross Care is winding back hours across its network of aged care facilities in Queensland.
Speaking in Kumbia on Tuesday, Mr Littleproud agreed there had been a year-long funding indexation freeze on one stream of aged care funding but this was only because some aged care providers had been “gaming” the system.
This would reduce to a 50 per cent level in the following year and return to normal levels the year after.
Mr Littleproud emphasised that there had been no Federal Government cuts to Southern Cross Care.
“Southern Cross Care has made a business decision,” he said.
