A home in Haly Street, Wondai, was gutted by fire on Monday morning while the occupant was at work.
Firefighters were called to the blaze at 9:40am and found the building well involved in flames.
They entered the home to fight the fire but were forced to withdraw when it looked likely the roof was about to collapse.
A QFES spokesperson said five fire crews attended the incident.
Police and an ambulance also were in attendance, but no one was injured.
The fire was contained by 10:40am, but firefighters remained on site after this to dampen down the building.
