South Burnett residents are being warned to keep their homes and vehicles locked following a number of break-ins and car thefts in the region.

On May 26, a white Mazda was stolen from a house in Murgon.

This was followed a day later by attempted break-ins around the town.

On Tuesday night, a vehicle was stolen in Wondai and driven to Kingaroy, where the alleged offenders lost control and hit a power pole in First Avenue.

A boy was injured in the crash and taken to Kingaroy Hospital; he has since been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Thieves then stole a set of keys and drove off in a Ford Ranger which was later found dumped near Cherbourg.

Investigations are continuing.
