Three fire crews were called to Earle Park in Kingaroy on Saturday afternoon to control a grass fire burning at the rear of homes.

The fire was burning between Parkside Drive, Windsor Circle and Alford Street in an area that local residents call “Palm Island”.

A fire brigade spokesman said the units were called at 2:35pm.

Firefighters found a  thick pile of grass burning which was impossible to fully extinguish.

They backburned an area around the pile to make the area safe while the pile was left to smoulder.

They returned later to check on the area.
