Tyre blow-outs have caused a three-week delay to the relocation of Blackbutt Memorial Hall, but the incident isn’t expected to cause any major overruns.
The relocation of the Hall from its current site in Coulson Street, Blackbutt, to a new home near the Blackbutt Showgrounds was originally scheduled to be carried out on March 21-26.
Several smaller pieces of the Hall had already been transported to the new location between early February and mid-March.
But five tyre blowouts on a removal trailer – which happened when it ran over some steel while it was attempting to move the main section of the Hall – has caused a delay while replacement tyres are ordered and refitted.
The remaining portion of the Hall is currently sitting on wooden supports at the Coulson Street site.
It is now expected to be moved on April 13.
South Burnett Mayor Keith Campbell said until the tyre blow-outs happened, the project had been proceeding on schedule and he was not concerned the delay would cause any negative impacts.
He was confident the hall would be finished at the new Bowman Road site by July 1, as planned.
Under the terms of the Council’s contract with supermarket developer Breezeway Developments Pty Ltd, Breezeway will disassemble the Hall, move it to the new site, reassemble it, and then carry out updates to make the Hall compliant with current standards.
Once Council officers have checked and signed off on the work, Breezeway will be given title to the two Coulson Street blocks the Hall formerly sat on so the company can begin building a supermarket.
Under the original schedule, this was planned to occur on July 1 so the new supermarket could open on December 1.
