The South Burnett Regional Council will partner with the Red Earth Foundation to help deliver a $6 million State Government program that aims to foster private sector innovation.
Last October, the Queensland Government announced it would be making an Advancing Regional Innovation Program available to 12 regional areas, including the Wide Bay-Burnett.
The program aims to turn regions into hubs for innovation and enterprise, and the Government has allocated $500,000 to the Wide Bay-Burnett over the next two years.
A key aim of the program is to build on existing local infrastructure and systems, rather than develop something new.
All projects funded under the scheme will require a matching contribution from business.
On Wednesday, the South Burnett Regional Council announced it intends to work with other Wide Bay-Burnett councils to implement the program across the Wide Bay-Burnett.
The Council also announced it will partner with Red Earth Foundation South Burnett to deliver the program locally.
“This presents a great opportunity for local businesses with an innovative project ready to go or in the development phase to join this program,” Mayor Keith Campbell said.
“This program may well produce an innovative project that benefits the whole region, and I encourage business to come along to a two hour workshop on Friday, March 10 in Kingaroy to hear more about the program and discuss their ideas.”
Further information about the program and the workshop is available from the Council’s Economic Development Manager Phil Harding on (07) 4189-9100.
