Division 2 South Burnett Councillor Spud Jones will be updating Blackbutt residents on the progress of Council projects in the Timbertowns area at a public meeting next week.
Cr Jones will be holding the meeting at the Blackbutt Golf Club at 51 Langton Road at 6:00pm on Wednesday, February 15.
One topic that is likely to attract a lot of local interest will be an update on the relocation of the Blackbutt Memorial Hall.
The hall needs to be moved from its current location in Coulson Street to a site near the Blackbutt Showgrounds to free up the land it sits on, allowing a modern supermarket to be built in the town.
South Burnett Mayor Keith Campbell, who may also be attending the meeting, told southburnett.com.au supermarket builders Breezeway Developments’ plans for the new supermarket have now been accepted by Council officers.
Breezeway submitted the first draft of its plans to the Council in September last year.
The Council requested a number of substantial changes to meet Planning Scheme requirements, and these have now been made.
The next step in the process will be to shift the Memorial Hall.
Mayor Campbell said he was confident Blackbutt residents would be very pleased with the end result once the hall had been bedded down at its new home.
The building will get a new alignment to fit in with the geography of the site, and it will also get new toilets and two disability access ramps.
The Hall’s bar area will be expanded, the kitchen will be upgraded and existing problems with the Hall’s roof will be fixed.
The Mayor said that in hindsight, the initial schedule for moving the Hall and building the supermarket may have been too ambitious, given the complexity of the undertaking.
But both projects are still proceeding, and the latest forecast for the Hall’s move is in March.
