The 16th annual Blackbutt Community Christmas Festival kicked off on Sunday afternoon with the official unveiling of the schoolchildren’s mural.
This traditional activity alternates every year between children at the Benarkin State School and the Blackbutt State School, and the mural is usually displayed in the Memorial Hall.
However, because of uncertainty over whether the hall would be available this year, a smaller two-sided mural was designed to hang in Les Muller Park.
It was the turn of the students from Benarkin State School to design the mural, and some were present for the unveiling.
South Burnett mayor Keith Campbell and Blackbutt Benarkin Lions Club president Ivan Panzram did the honours.
The afternoon’s activities also included a sausage sizzle, candle-making, face-painting, free ice-creams for the children, raffles and a jumping castle.
