A simple idea by one of Kingaroy’s largest companies to encourage team building among staff members has grown into a project that involves multiple workplaces … and a new sporting event for the region.
Eight teams have registered for this year’s Workplace Warriors Footy Funday, but if it goes as well as expected, even more teams could take part next year.
The idea to hold a Footy Funday grew from internal discussions at Bean Growers Australia.
Several BGA employees already take part in the local Touch Football competition, so it seemed natural they would pick this sport for a team-building exercise.
More people heard about the event, and more teams came on board.
The Workplace Warriors Footy Funday will be held at T.J. O’Neill Oval in Kingaroy from 9:00am to 4:00pm on Saturday, November 26.
Team captains held a briefing with BGA representative Veronica Roderick on Thursday to finalise arrangements for the big day.
Teams must be mixed, and can include children aged from 8 and above.
The winning team will earn a trophy plus $1000 to donate to their charity of choice.
BGA will be entering two teams: “Bean Touched” and “The Mixed Beans”.
Other teams are Crumpton’s Peanuts (“Crummie’s Avengers”), Fiedler Brothers Plumbing (“The Fiedler Flushers”), Domino’s Pizzas (“The Dominators”), Deb Frecklington’s Office (“Team Deb Frecklington”), “Untouchables”, and Cardio Central (“Cardio Conquerors”).
Spectators are invited to come along and cheer on the players, and there’ll also be a jumping castle and face-painting for the children, as well as hot food and cold drinks. A licensed bar will be operating from 4:00pm and there will be a free barbecue dinner.
Veronica emphasised that all the arrangements had been made locally so dollars spent would go back into the local community.
