Numbers were up in Murgon for the fortnightly sale on Tuesday, with 1000 cattle yarded.

The market for most descriptions remained reasonably firm, with the exception of some restock cattle easing because of continuing dry weather and worsening paddock conditions.

Cattle were drawn from Mundubbera, Gayndah, Biggenden, Monogorilby, Yarraman, Nanango, Kingaroy, Kilkivan and Murgon.

  • Droughtmaster Bullocks from Manyung sold to $1813 at $2.90/kg. Santa cross Bullocks from Wooroolin sold to $1785 at $2.98/kg. 4 and 6 tooth bullocks from Mundubbera sold for $2.78/kg, returning $1700.
  • Droughtmaster Heifers from Murgon (440 kg, 4 tooth grain assisted) sold to $2.77/kg for $1300.
  • Heavy Cows topped at $2.48/kg for $1580. Cows over 500kg averaged $2.32/kg. Cows 400-500kg averaged $2.09/kg selling to $2.40/kg. Cows under 400kg topped at $1.97/kg.
  • Heavy Bulls: The best of the heavy bulls yarded sold to $2.51/kg and $2250.
  • Droughtmaster Steers: K and M Armstrong of Manyung sold Droughtmaster steers for $1705 at $3.29/kg.
  • Brangus and Charbray Steers from Mundubbera sold for $1500 (3.49) and $1430 (3.45) respectively.
  • Santa Cross Steers: 416 kg Santa Cross steers from Merlwood Enterprises in Murgon sold at $3.46/kg for $1440.
  • Limousin Cross Steers from N. Labuschewski at Tingoora sold to $3.57/kg returning $1170.
  • Murray Grey Cross Steers from Webber and Sons at Hivesville sold for $1133 at $3.50/kg.
  • Santa Steers from L. Smith at Mt Larcom weighing 390kg sold for $1350 at $3.47/kg.
  • Charolais Cross Steers from I. and M. Buckley in Gayndah sold 315kg for $3.49/kg, returning $1099. A draft of 28 Charolais cross steers for A. and K. Zerner of Murgon sold for an average of $1280 at $3.33/kg, topping at $1280 and $3.45/kg.
  • Brahman Cross Weaner Steers from Ban Ban Springs sold for $842 at $3.66/kg.
  • Charbray Weaner Steers from Cherbourg Community Council sold for $930 at $3.61/kg.
  • Droughtmaster Cross Heifers from Murgon of 390kg sold for $1115 at $2.83/kg.
  • Braford Heifers from Gayndah of 373kg sold for $1045 at $2.80/kg.
  • Charolais Cross Heifers from Gayndah weighing 358 kg sold for $1007 and $2.81/kg. The top of the vealer heifer market was $3.52/kg for a $933 return. Most fresher vealer heifers sold in the $3.20 to $3.40/kg bracket. Cows and calves sold to $1550.

The next Murgon sale will be held on Tuesday, December 6 at 8:00 am.
