Nanango’s Our Lady Help Of Christians Catholic Church will be celebrating its centenary in 2017, and parishioners want to repaint its interior and carry out other repairs and refurbishments before its 100th birthday.
However, the necessary work is estimated to cost $20,000.
To help raise funds, the church will be hosting a recital by soprano Calista Walters on Saturday afternoon, November 5.
Ms Walters was born in Nanango and attended both St Patrick’s School and Nanango State High School before moving to Sydney to study at university.
After finishing her bachelor’s degree, she moved to Toowoomba to do postgraduate studies, and still lives there.
Her performances have been broadcast on radio and she has performed in a number of stage productions including Handel’s Messiah, Judas Maccabaeus, Alexander’s Feast, Haunting Melodies, Love’s Lesson’s Learned, Opera Odyssey and The Telephone.
She has also worked with Opera Queensland.
Ms Walters will perform a number of classic religious songs and hymns at the recital at Our Lady Help Of Christians, including Ave Maria, Panis Angelicus, and the Lord’s Prayer.
The concert will start at 2:00pm and run for an hour.
Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for children, and afternoon tea is included.
Tickets will be available at the door, but to help plan the catering RSVPs to 0400-402-361 would be appreciated.
