One of Queensland’s most senior police officers died suddenly on Saturday.

Acting Chief Superintendent Paul Ziebarth, who was based in the South Brisbane District, suffered a massive heart attack while off duty.

Queensland Police media issued the following statement:

“It is with much sadness and great regret that the Queensland Police Service can confirm the death Acting Chief Superintendent Paul Ziebarth from South Brisbane District.

“Acting Chief Superintendent Ziebarth passed away unexpectedly earlier today. He was not on duty at the time.

“Acting Chief Superintendent Ziebarth was a well respected officer who dedicated his life to serving the community and had over thirty-one years of distinguished service to the people of Queensland.

“The condolences of the entire police family are with the Acting Chief Superintendent’s family and loved ones at this sad time.”

Paul Ziebarth joined the QPS in 1984 and performed a range of duties.

He was a foundation member of the full-time Public Safety Response Team.

He was appointed to the rank of Inspector at the Office of the Commissioner in 2003 where he worked on a number of significant projects including the QPS Budget, National Forums, Cabinet submissions and legislation.

In 2006, he moved to the South Eastern Region as a Regional Duty Officer before working as a District Inspector in the Logan Police District, and Superintendent, District Officer Gold Coast District.

Acting Chief Superintendent Ziebarth had strong family ties to the South Burnett.

UPDATE:  A funeral service for Acting Chief Superintendent Paul Ziebarth will be held from noon on Tuesday, October 25, at Our Lady of Graces Catholic Church, Carina.
