The recent Spring Garden Expo at the Wondai Showgrounds was one of the most successful seen in recent years.
After several years of either too little or too much rain, this year’s weather has been much kinder to the region’s gardeners.
And the proof of it could be found at the Expo itself, where an avenue of stallholders selling anything from pot plants to garden tools circled two-thirds of the main arena, and getting around to see everything on offer could easily consume several hours.
Inside the Lions Pavilion, guests were treated to vivid and colourful displays from entries in the Expo’s garden competitions, and even more stalls.
Keen gardeners could take in talks by guest speaker Noel Burdett, who provides a regular gardening segment on the ABC, or simply sit under a shade tent and be entertained by The Stepping Stones.
Hungry visitors could also grab a cool drink at several stands in the grounds, or grab something more substantial at the Lions Pavilion where Wondai Lions members were running the canteen and barbecue.
This year’s Spring Garden Expo was officially opened by South Burnett Mayor Keith Campbell, who congratulated the Wondai Garden Expo committee on their outstanding effort.
The Mayor said the twice-yearly Expo was the region’s biggest gardening show, and as a gardener himself he appreciated the efforts club members put into it.
While he was visiting the Expo he planned to get a few things for his own home garden, and looked forward to some happy browsing once the formalities were concluded.

2016 Spring Garden Expo
Garden Competition Winners
The Wondai and District Garden Club conducted their annual Home Garden Competition prior to the Spring Garden Expo.
Competition conveners Cath Routledge and Helen Young said they were absolutely thrilled with the response to the competition this year, and that all gardeners in the region should be commended for their wonderful efforts, as evidenced in the gardens assessed.
In most cases only a tiny margin determined the winners in each category, with the winning gardens exhibiting all of the desired areas to a high standard.
