Two historic wooden buildings which had been threatened with demolition at Nanango Hospital are now safely re-located at Nanango Showgrounds.
The old Community Health building and a smaller building known as the Seamstress’ Hut were loaded onto trucks for the short journey via back streets to the showground.
Nanango Historical Society president Ros Gregor, who launched the campaign to save the buildings, was smiling as she watched them trundle away on Thursday morning.
The two wooden buildings had been located at the rear of the hospital complex on land which Queensland Health wants to develop into a much-needed car park.
Ros said the buildings were in a good condition and it would have been a pity for them to have been demolished.
Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service Board member Cheryl Dalton, who also watched the buildings depart the hospital grounds, said it had been great outcome for the Nanango community.
The larger building will be used as a meeting room at the showgrounds, while the Seamstress’ Hut will become the new Show Society Office, located near the main gate.
