Burglars Peter Ainslie and Des Moore look on as potential home buyers Annette Montebello and Will Hunter quarrel in the Nanango Theatre Company’s two-act comedy “You Can’t Beat The House”

The Nanango Theatre Company are hoping to have audiences rolling in the aisles when they debut their latest production in early October.

“You Can’t Beat The House” is a two-act comedy by Houston playwright Pat Cook.

The story follows two minor league burglars who break into a house and are surprised to find the place is up for sale.

But before they can leave, two prospective buyers – Conrad and Glenda – show up to see the house.

Burglars Merle and Howie think the best way to get out of this situation is to pretend to be the real estate agents until they can escape.

So Merle shows the couple the house while Howie ducks out to get the car.

This all works well until the real agent shows up, forcing Merle to juggle the couple and the agent.

And just as Merle gets rid of the realtor and is about to show the door to Conrad and Glenda, Howie arrives with news their car has been towed away.

Add to the cast a policeman looking for two suspicious men in the neighborhood, the policeman’s mother, Conrad’s secretary, Glenda’s mother, and the house’s ghost Madame Zenobia and you have a parade of truly oddball characters.

“You Can’t Beat The House” is directed by Linda Hall and stars Peter Ainslie and Des Moore as the hapless burglars, and Annette Montebello and Will Hunter as the prospective buyers Glenda and Conrad.

The show will debut at 7:00pm on Friday, October 7th at the Nanango Theatre Company’s playhouse in Elk Street (curtain rises at 7:30pm) and there’ll be three other performances at the same time and place on Saturday, October 8 and the following Friday and Saturday, October 14-15.

There’ll also be a final matinee performance at 1:30pm on Sunday, October 16.

Tickets to any of the five shows can be obtained from the Nanango Visitor Information Centre in Henry Street, Nanango.
