The Kingaroy Aero Modellers Society (KAMS) held its AGM on Sunday morning after a breakfast of freshly-baked damper, butter and syrup provided by member Ron Coster.

The AGM started at 10:00am.

It was followed by a day of model aeroplane flying in “near perfect” weather at the club’s airfield at 844 Booie Crawford Road, Booie.

Elected to the executive for 2016-17 were:

  • President: John Box
  • Vice-President: Neil Hansen
  • Secretary: John Box
  • Treasurer: Denis Hansen
  • Safety and Training Officer: Neil Hansen

President John Box passed on the appreciation of the club to outgoing secretary Darryl Hansen and outgoing safety and training officer Brett Francis for all their efforts.

He said 2015-16 had been a much quieter year for KAMS than the previous one, but was still a year with plenty of highlights.

“During the last year there have been many upgrades of the club’s on-site facilities, as well as many hours of pleasant flying and socialising, plus the odd crash to keep us on our toes and give us some rebuilding experience,” John said.

“We welcomed new members Errol and Jake Sanderson and Garry Jordan this year, and our membership now sits at a healthy 17.”

John also listed the projects completed over the past 12 months:

  • Further refining of the bows on the shade cloth pit covering.
  • Constructing and installation of a shade cloth cover over the toilets
  • Installation of the lockable kitchen container for storage of the stove, kettle and tea making facilities
  • Invention, construction and setting up of the a scraper
  • Cutting down the height and installing a K wire fence on the pilot enclosure
  • Professional new site signage
  • Installation of three fire extinguishers and a fire blanket, thanks to donations from Ron Coster and Neil Hansen
  • Construction and setup of two fire bashers by Trevor Howe

Goals for 2016-17 include:

  • Conducting another successful RFDS Australian Model Flying Day on October 23
  • Priming and repainting the top of the container and spot painting the sides
  • Club T-shirts for new members

“My thanks go to all members for their support and kind wishes.” John said.

“And my special thanks for a successful year must go to our executive and the ongoing support from our major sponsor, Stihl Shop Kingaroy, along with the ongoing support of our landlords, the McLennan family.”
