A progressive dinner that takes in the region’s best art, best smorgasbord, best wines, oldest hotel and a leading band will launch this year’s South Burnett and Cherbourg On Show festival in Wondai on Friday, September 30.

This year the October long weekend festival will kick off at the Wondai Regional Art Gallery at 6:00pm, where the winners of the annual South Burnett Acquisitive art competition will be announced.

This competition – which is only open to South Burnett artists – always attracts a big roll-up of exciting new works.

It offers prizes in several different categories, and the best work in the competition is acquired by the South Burnett Regional Council for the region’s permanent art collection.

At 7:30pm, dinner guests will then move across the road to Dimities Cottage where they’ll be treated to an all-you-can-eat smorgasbord plus dessert, along with talks and samples from several of the South Burnett’s leading wineries.

And then around 9:00pm, guests will move a few doors down Haly Street for an after party at the historic Wondai Hotel, where popular South Burnett band Muddy Flats will be playing late into the night.

Tickets for the $40 per head dinner were released on Saturday and can be booked online.

This year the long weekend festival of events will be featuring 37 different activities from Cooyar to Moffatdale.

Muddy Flats will be performing at the Wondai Hotel on Friday, September 30 as part of a progressive dinner that will launch this year’s South Burnett and Cherbourg On Show long weekend festival
