Music students from St Mary’s Catholic College in Kingaroy returned victorious from the Queensland Catholic Music Festival at Villanova College, Brisbane, on Saturday.

The festival, which is the biggest of its kind on the Pan Pacific region, saw thousands of students from Catholic schools and colleges from around Queensland and beyond competing in a variety of sections, ranging from small instrumental groups to choirs, rock bands, drumlines and orchestras.

The Senior Primary Choir received a Silver Award for their polished and energetic performance, and the Secondary Orchestra received a Gold Award.

Both groups faced strong competition from prestigious Brisbane colleges but held their nerve and put on a great show. The students were thrilled with their awards, particularly as first-timers in the QCMF.

This event is the third in 10 days for the Music Program; following on from the Wondai Art Gallery performances and the St Mary Mackillop Mass in Brisbane last week.

The young musicians are now looking ahead to Term 4 events, including the Music Tuition Program Performance Evening, Presentation Night, and the annual Celebration of the Arts.
