The region’s best karaoke singers are getting ready to battle it out at this year’s Wondai Show for fame, glory and cold, hard cash.

For the last few months, singers have been competing for a place in the finals of the Wondai Show Society’s new Regional Karaoke Sing-Off in fortnightly heats held at Wondai’s Warana Hotel.

Four people were selected to go into the finals at each of the four heats.

Meanwhile, eight children were also selected to go into a junior section of the competition, thanks to two special Sunday afternoon heats held at the Wondai Diggers Club.

All 24 singers will be performing in concert on Saturday night, August 27 for a share of the $2500 in prize monies on offer.

The competition has been organised by Sue Bradley and Geoff Grevell from Love2Sing.

The winners of each heat were chosen by guest judges who included Winston Burrows, Guy Davis, Graham Mitchell, Shaz Birkett, Wayne Castle, Bob Monaghan, Luke Radunz and Cam.

Last Sunday night, all the adult finalists were busy practising at the Wondai Showgrounds to make certain all the gear they’ll need for their performance functioned perfectly.

“I think a lot of people will be surprised at how much talent we have in this area,” Geoff Grevell said.

“We had a lot of people competing for a place, and we were pleasantly surprised at the high standard of performances that came through.”

The Regional Karaoke Sing-Off is a replacement for the Wondai Bull Ride.

Other new features at this year’s show will include a Show & Shine, horse agility trials, an expanded chainsaw racing area, roving entertainers and children’s entertainment.
