Kay Enkelmann, from the Burnett Mary Regional Group based at Wondai, has been nominated for a national Landcare award.
Kay is one of nine Queensland finalists in the national awards, which will be announced at the 2016 National Landcare Conference in Melbourne next month.
She earned her spot after winning the Landcare Facilitator Award (Queensland) in 2015.
Kay’s work with BMRG has included arranging one-on-one consultation sessions for South Burnett growers impacted by floods and drought, and working on the development of sustainable farming practices.
The full list of Queensland finalists are:
- Australian Government Individual Landcarer Award – Phil Moran, Noosa Landcare
- Australian Government Landcare Facilitator or Coordinator Award – Kay Enkelmann, BMRG
- Australian Government Partnerships with Landcare Award – Balnggarrawarra Rangers
- Coastcare Award – Coolum and District Coastcare
- Fairfax Media Landcare Community Group Award – Nerang Riverkeepers
- Indigenous Land Corporation Indigenous Landcare Award – Fraser Island World Heritage Area Indigenous Advisory Committee
- Junior Landcare Team Award – Little Gems Children’s Centre, Georgetown
- Manpower Young Landcare Leader Award – Naomi Edwards, Gold Coast Catchments Association
The National Landcare Awards dinner on September 22 will feature 69 finalists.
The prestigious Bob Hawke Landcare Award will also be announced on the evening, the winner of which will receive a $50,000 prize to foster a Landcare project.
The popularly elected People’s Choice Award – voted online – will also be awarded on the night. Voting for the People’s Choice Award is open until 6:00pm on Wednesday, September 21.
