Former world shot put champion Justin Anlezark will be coming to Blackbutt on Sunday (August 7).

Justin is a former Blackbutt State School student who competed in the Sydney, Athens and Beijing Olympics, and also won gold at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester before he retired in 2010.

He will be coming back to Blackbutt on Saturday as a guest of the Blackbutt and District Tourism and Heritage Association to launch an “Olympic Fun Walk” along the Rail Trail.

Registration for the Fun Walk will take place at the Roy Emerson Museum at the end of Hart Street from 8:00am.

There’ll be a warm-up session at 8:30am, and the walk will get underway at 9:00am.

Most walkers will make the journey from Blackbutt to Benarkin and back again – a distance of about 8km – but shorter distances will be available as well.

Afterwards, there’ll be a sausage sizzle lunch at Nukku Nook about noon, as well as the chance to meet and talk with Justin.

Entry fees for the Fun Walk are $2 for individuals or $5 for a family pass, and all proceeds of the day will go towards ongoing restoration work on the Nukku Siding building and the Nukku Nook heritage precinct.

Anyone is welcome to take part, and more details can be obtained by phoning Iris Crumpton on 0418-741-254 or by email.
