This rare cricket bat signed by Sir Donald Bradman is one of only five in the world

July 22, 2016

A rare cricket bat signed by Australian cricketing legend Sir Donald Bradman will be up for auction in Kingaroy this Saturday night, July 23.

The bat is one of only five in the world, and it will be a feature of this year’s Dinner With The Captains auction at Kingaroy Town Hall.

Dinner With The Captains is an annual gala fundraiser for the South Burnett’s Relay For Life.

This year the dinner’s special guests will be Queensland rugby league legend Wally Lewis, cricketing great Ian Chappell and women’s hockey champion Nikki Hudson.

This year’s dinner was sold out just three days after tickets went on sale.

Relay for Life patron Carl Rackemann said his good friend, former South Australian cricketer Sam Parkinson, had offered him the bat through the Lord’s Taverners, and organisation that helps disadvantaged young people achieve their sporting dreams.

The group had obtained the five Bradman bats two decades ago, Carl said, and resolved they’d only be released for particularly worthy causes.

Over the years many rare sporting memorabilia items have been auctioned at the annual dinner, by Carl believed the Bradman bat was probably the rarest.

Doors for the dinner will open at 5:30pm, and the event will get underway at 6:00
