Two crashes occurred within hours of each other on the same stretch of the D’Aguilar Highway near Barker Creek Flats on Monday.

In the morning, a young female driver was lucky to escape injury when she allegedly turned onto the highway in front of oncoming traffic.

Police investigations are continuing into the cause of the second crash, which occurred late on Monday afternoon.

The male driver of a ute appeared to lose control and run off the highway down an embankment.

He suffered serious leg injuries in the incident.

After being freed from the wrecked vehicle, he was taken by road ambulance to Kingaroy Hospital, and later airlifted by the Rescue 500 helicopter to Brisbane.
