The car park at the Kingaroy Bowls Club was packed out last weekend, and there were even caravans parked on the back lawn.
The occasion was the annual Ken Mills Toyota Men’s Open Age Fours Carnival, and the $5500 in prize money on offer attracted 22 teams who packed out the club’s greens on both days.
Players came from Brisbane, Toowoomba, the Sunshine Coast and all over the South Burnett to compete in the popular event.
And while numbers were slightly down this year, the standard of competition remained high.
The event was ultimately won by Brian Kunde Jr’s mixed team of players from Goomeri, Wondai, Coolum (formerly Kingaroy) and Pomona.
Brian’s team have been playing together for several years, but have never ranked higher than third in their previous tries at the Men’s Open Age Fours.
And they agreed their win this year was a pretty close-run thing.
“At one stage we were trailing 14-3,” Brian said.
“You don’t normally come back from 14-3, but we did.”

- Winners: Brian Kunde Jr (skip), Mark Williams, Kelvin King and Evan O’Rourke – 5W 56.5 +71
