LNP candidate for Flynn Ken O’Dowd has slipped ahead of the ALP’s Zac Beers in first preference votes

However, Mr O’Dowd is still lagging behind Mr Beers on a two-candidate preferred basis although the gap has narrowed markedly.

At 3:30pm on Thursday, Mr O’Dowd had 26,277 primary votes compared with Mr Beers’ 25,607.

But the split after preferences were distributed was Mr Beers 36,688 to Mr O’Dowd’s 36,033, a margin of 655 votes.

Mr O’Dowd’s fightback is from the counting of postal votes, where he is snaring 62.78 per cent of the vote on a two-candidate basis.

In comparison, Mr O’Dowd secured only 48.4 per cent of ordinary votes.

There are still 7311 votes to be counted.
