Freezing conditions which have swept over the South Burnett for the past few days should be coming to an end soon.
The Australian Bureau of Meteorology has forecast that the cold, stable air mass which has been causing low to sub-zero overnight temperatures across the region for the last few days will begin moving eastwards soon.
An overnight minimum of -1 has been forecast for Wednesday and zero for Thursday – which may get to below zero in some parts – but temperatures should begin to rise on Friday night (five degrees) before falling to three degrees again on Saturday and Sunday.
But on Monday the minimum overnight should be a much more comfortable seven degrees.
Daytime temperatures will range between 17 and 19 degrees.
The strong winds which have exaggerated the cold since Saturday are set to ease from Tuesday night onwards.
This means the South Burnett can look forward to more typical winter weather – cold mornings with occasional frosts but glorious sunny days – very soon.
Kingaroy’s coldest recorded June temperature (-5 degrees) occurred in 2001, according to the Bureau.
However. the long-term average minimum temperature in June is usually about six degrees, dropping to 3.5 degrees in July and 4.2 degrees in August.

Rime lightly frosted the bunya pines, providing a chilly but spectacular photo opportunity.
Rime – or hoar frost – is more than frost but not quite snow.
It was a ice-crackling minus three degrees on the Bunya Mountains on Tuesday morning according to Gold Coast photographer Richard “Tommy” Campion who has been turning his lens on the South Burnett this week.
And while there was no snow, there was plenty of mist and even some sleet.
