Yarraman News

The first Yarrabutt Lawns Bowls Challenge was held at the Yarraman Bowls Club on Thursday, and it attracted a good attendance of Yarraman and Timbertowns bowlers keen to defend the honour of their towns.

The contest took the form of an 18 end match, with scoring 2 points for an end and 5 for the win.

Future rounds of the Yarrabutt will be held on the second Thursday of each month for the remainder of the year, and all points will be accumulated for a Christmas event.

The Yarrabutt is a mixed gender competition and the key rule is that players must be in a team closest to their home.

But a random draw out of a hat before each round means players will be allocated to a home team and player position that will vary from one round to the next.

Morning tea, coffee and biscuits are supplied by the club, but contestants are asked to bring along a plate for a shared lunch.

You can sign up for the next round by phoning Wayne on 0414-594-480, Robyn on 0421-097-944 or Nev on (07) 4170-0880.

Murgon News

Murgon Bowls Club defeated long-standing rivals Gaythorne on May 28.

The two clubs first began competing against one another in 1963, and the annual contest is now in its 53rd year.

In February, the first round of this year’s competition was held in Murgon, and at the end of May thirteen Murgon bowlers headed to the north Brisbane club for the decider.

Murgon won the competition – and retained the shield – with a decisive 91-67 victory.
