South Burnett Saints scrambled against South Toowoomba throughout the game

June 3, 2016

South Burnett Saints will be looking to get back into the winner’s circle when they meet the Chinchilla Suns at Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy on Saturday afternoon.

The home team is coming off three defeats, despite strong comebacks in the second half, while Chinchilla is yet to chalk up a win in the 2016 season.

Last Saturday’s effort by the Saints – who are without key players due to injury – was almost enough to secure a victory against the South Toowoomba Bombers.

The Bombers led at half-time 6.6 (42) to 4.6 (30) but a big effort by the South Burnett players brought them level-pegging at the end of the third-quarter, both sides locked on 9.8 (62).

But at full-time, the Saints were behind 11.13 (79) to 10.9 (69).

South Burnett goals were kicked by Brad Pressnell (2), Nathan Trace (2), Nicholas Krauksts (2), Carl Stevenson (2), Paul Judge and Keegan Wright.

In the earlier game, South Burnett women came up against the much stronger Bombers, going down 19.20 (134) to 3.1 (19). Jessica Langton kicked South Burnett’s three goals.

This weekend is the Saints’ “Heritage Round” where they pay tribute to their Kingaroy Bulldogs’ lineage by playing in tricolor jerseys.

The Saints’ women will take on the combined Coolaroo / Warwick side at 1:00pm, followed by the men’s game against Chinchilla at 2:50pm.
