Gold Coast artist Glennys Briggs will be holding an workshop in Blackbutt on Saturday, June 4, that will leave a permanent mark on the town.

Glennys has been invited to Blackbutt as part of the town’s Queensland Week Family Fun Day.

She is a Taungwurrung-Yorta Yorta woman from the Bendigo area in Victoria, near the foothills of the Great Dividing Range.

Glennys was a finalist in the 2014 Victorian Indigenous Art Awards, has run art courses at many locations including the State Library of Queensland, and exhibited her artworks in Melbourne, Brisbane and overseas for more than 14 years.

She will share her story and connection to country, and then guests will be encouraged to create their own Aboriginal-inspired artworks.

At the end of the workshop, all the artworks will be scanned, and later made into ceramic tiles that will become part of the Stanwell Connecting Heart To Hart landscape and pathway project at the Scott Haven Independent Living Complex in Hart Street.

This new $20,000 garden and community space at Scott Haven will be completed by January next year, and it is hoped September’s Bloomin’ Beautiful Blackbutt Avocado Festival will help raise the bulk of the funds needed to complete the project.

Glennys Briggs’ indigenous art workshop will be held at Nukku Nook at the end of Hart Street between noon and 2:00pm.

The cost of the workshop is $25, which includes all art materials, but attendance numbers are strictly limited to 15.

Bookings – by May 31 – can be made by phoning Melanie Doheny on 0417-634-981.

Glennys is also one of “The Muirs” who’ll be performing with Chad Morgan at the Blackbutt Showgrounds at 6:00pm later the same day.

Tickets to the concert are $10 and there’ll be a cash bar and food available during the evening.
