South Burnett television viewers are about to experience a shake-up.
From July 1, Nine’s metropolitan free-to-air content will move from the WIN Network to Southern Cross Ten, owned by Southern Cross Austereo (SCA).
Nine Entertainment Co and SCA entered into a $500 million deal on April 29, a day after WIN failed in a legal bid to stop Nine live-streaming its programs into regional areas.
WIN had claimed that the live-streaming of Nine content via the internet and phone apps breached its affiliation agreement with Nine.
However, a judge disagreed, saying live-streaming was not “broadcasting” as defined by the agreement.
From July 1, Southern Cross Ten and other SCA channels will carry Nine’s branding and broadcast Nine’s Australian and international content, including the NRL and cricket, into regional areas of Queensland, Victoria and southern NSW.
The WIN Network is now believed to be seeking a new affiliate partner, possibly Network 10.
