Toowoomba Regional Council is introducing lifetime animal registration tags for dogs across the Toowoomba region.

The new life-time tags will be introduced in July and are designed to be environmentally friendly and make the registration process easier for customers.

TRC Environmental Health Services portfolio leader Cr Joe Ramia said the new system would enable Council to issue a single tag that stayed with a dog for life.

“It’s simple. It’s one tag, per dog, for life,” Cr Ramia said.

“Dog owners will still pay annual registration fees as normal each June but won’t need to replace tags every year and will have the convenience of keeping the same tag number for the life of their dog.

“If you already have a dog registered with Council you will receive a green life-time tag by mail when you pay your renewal notice. The new tag will replace your current purple tag.

“All new animal registrations from July 1 will receive a green life-time tag at the time of registration.”

Toowoomba Council’s dog registration fees for 2016-17 are:

  • Entire dog $97
  • Entire dog (pensioner concession) $75
  • Desexed dog $30
  • Desexed dog (pensioner concession) $24
  • Entire obedience trained dog $49
  • Entire obedience trained dog (pensioner concession) $37
  • Desexed and obedience trained dog $18
  • Rural entire dog $36
  • Rural desexed dog $18
  • Dogs Queensland member $49

Cr Ramia said it was a legal requirement for all dogs that are 12-weeks or older to receive a microchip implant and be registered with Council.

“Registration fees are used for providing animal management-related services to the community, including animal management staff dealing with emergencies, shelter facilities, educational and other animal-related activities,” Cr Ramia said.

“If your dog’s life-time tag is lost or damaged a replacement tag can be obtained at Council’s Customer Service Centre, at no charge. Council will introduce online registration later this year to make the system even easier.”
