Gunners took most of the points on the weekend in Round 5 of this year’s South Burnett Football competition.
Gunners played Barambah at Wondai on Saturday, where both Gunners’ men’s teams clinched identical 3-1 victories against their rivals.
Barambah’s 2nd Division side have turned in creditable results so far this season, winning two rounds and coming close in others.
But their 1st Division team – which has to be bolstered by 2nd Division players because of a player shortage – is yet to win.
However, it was Barambah’s women’s side which prevented Gunners making a clean sweep of the Bears.
Barambah women defeated the luckless Gunnettes – who’ve yet to secure any points for themselves so far this season – by a strong 7-nil margin.
Pending a win by Nanango’s women’s side when they play a deferred match against Wests this Thursday night, Saturday’s victory has put Barambah women at the top of the women’s division points table with three wins, a draw and a loss so far this season.

Because of the Nanango Show, Nanango and Wests agreed to postpone their 1st and 2nd Division matches to Sunday afternoon, while the Women’s Division opted to postpone their match to this Thursday night.
In 2nd Division, Wests proved too strong for the Panthers, taking the match 3-nil.
The victory means that while the Panthers still sit on top of the season’s Second Division league table with 9 points under their belt, Wests now tie with Gunners at second place (7 points each).
But in 1st Division, Panthers took their fifth victory in a row, defeating Wests by a thumping 8-1 margin.
This means Panthers are most likely to face Gunners’ 1st Division side in the up-coming President’s Cup match on May 14, with only 3 points separating the two sides.

On Sunday, fans of women’s football had a special treat when the SWQ Thunder and Sunshine Coast Fire played three matches at Tom Alford Oval in Kingaroy: one for U13s, one for U15s and then a senior match.
In the senior game, SWQ Thunder Women moved back into the top four with a comfortable 4-1 win over Sunshine Coast, taking the lead in the game’s eighth minute and never relinquishing it.
Sunshine Coast helped with an own goal in the 51st minute, but redeemed themselves eight minutes later when Linley Archard turned on the edge of the penalty area and delivered a pin-point shot over Thunder goalkeeper Lucinda Jensen.
The match, which was Round 7 of the 2016 PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues Women’s competition, has extended a five-match unbeaten run for the Thunder, and moves the Toowoomba based club back into fourth position on the table.
It was Sunshine Coast’s second loss in a row.
In the Under 13 girls match, Sunshine Coast 9 defeated SWQ Thunder 3; and in the U15s game, Thunder won 5-3.
