The Bloomin’ Beautiful Blackbutt Festival has changed its name.

From now on it will be known as the Bloomin’ Beautiful Blackbutt Avocado Festival, in recognition of the important role avocados play in Blackbutt’s local economy.

The popular annual event, which will be held on September 10-11 this year, is one of the South Burnett’s largest community festivals.

And this year it will showcase one of the region’s largest agricultural exports.

“Blackbutt’s avocado growers have all provided support for the name change, along with a financial commitment to market Blackbutt and the region’s avocado credentials,” Festival chair Jeff Connor said.

“This year the Festival also has a new naming rights sponsor – Ken Mills Toyota has come aboard, and we thank them very much for their support.”

The new look Festival will be officially launched on June 4 at a Queensland Week Family Fun Day that will be held at the Blackbutt Showgrounds in Bowman Street.

The launch event will feature well-known performer Chad Morgan as a special guest, along with The Muirs.

“This year the Festival committee will be hosting a number of events in the lead-up to our big new avocado spectacular to provide community and economic support for Blackbutt and Benarkin,” Jeff said.

“We are also working closely with other organisations on community projects, including the Blackbutt and Benarkin song with Josh Arnold.

“Josh will be working with the kids from both the Blackbutt and Benarkin State Schools to write our very own song, which will be made into a music video clip for YouTube.

“This is a very exciting project as part of this year’s programming.”

Jeff said the Festival committee also has more surprises in store. but they’ll be kept under wraps until June’s official launch.

This year’s Festival committee are Jeff Connor (Chair), David Berry (Vice Chair), Dave Eaton (Treasurer), John Atkins (Acting Secretary) and committee members Tracey Snell, Marg Moult, Trish Roberts-Hay, Sharon Ogden, Les Lane and Trish Litjens.
