The Quota Club of Kingaroy marked International Women’s Day with an elegant dinner at the SBcare Centre in Kingaroy on Saturday night.
Guest speaker was Roxanne Innes, a listening and spoken language specialist at Brisbane’s Hear And Say Centre.
Quotarians internationally have a special service to deaf, hard-of-hearing, and speech-impaired individuals.
In Queensland, this translates to support for the Hear And Say Centre at Ashgrove, which works with deaf children, many of whom have received cochlear implants.
Roxanne explained the services that Hear And Say provides, including spoken language intervention, parent education and social skills programs.
The Ashgrove centre works with more than 2000 children every year.
The Quota dinner was the first of two International Women’s Day events scheduled in Kingaroy this year.
A newly formed group, South Burnett Women, is holding a breakfast at Cassis on the Booie Range on Tuesday.
