Yarraman News
Yarraman bowlers descended on Nanango Bowls Club on Saturday to play Rotational Triples, but neither local side won after a team of visiting Ipswich bowlers secured the top score of the day.
The two South Burnett bowls clubs have waged a friendly war against one another for several years now. Each club acts as host one month, and visitors the next.
March was Nanango’s turn to play host, and the club’s greens were packed with players from both sides upholding the honour of their respective clubs.
The visiting Ipswich team just happened to be in the region and were invited to join the fun.
Much to everyone’s surprise, it was the Ipswich visitors who wound up winning the day by the narrowest of margins (the full results of Saturday’s match can be found further below in Nanango News).
Neil Johnston, from Maidenwell, was philosophical about the upset loss and said he thought the Rotational Triples concept was good for both clubs.
Players bowled in slightly unfamiliar surroundings every other month – which helped sharpen their game – and the matches always drew a good turnout which ensured a lot of healthy competition.
Next month it will be Nanango’s turn to visit Yarraman.
Neil said he was looking forward to it, unless, of course, more Ipswich visitors happened to turn up.

One event non-bowlers from all over the region should look forward to is Yarraman’s Corporate Trophy Day, which will be held from noon this Saturday, March 12, at the Yarraman Bowls Club in Margaret Street.
The day will take the form of a 3 bowls triples competition, with two games of 12 ends.
No player can be a member or player of a bowls club.
Instead, each team must represent a not-for-profit volunteer organisation or charity, and if they win any of the three cash prizes on offer ($225 for 1st, $150 for 2nd or $75 for 3rd place), the prize money will be given to the group or charity they’re representing.
The Corporate Trophy Day is being sponsored by the Bendigo Community Bank, and Bendigo Bank merchandise will be handed out that players can keep, regardless of how well – or otherwise – they do.
Green fees are $10 and names need to be in by noon for a 12:30pm start.
The matches will be followed by a barbecue tea and everyone is welcome.

Kingaroy News
The Kingaroy Bowls Club’s six-week Autumn Corporate Challenge will be starting on Tuesday, March 15.
Local teams of four will be taking to the greens every Tuesday between 7:00pm and 9:00pm to battle it out for line honours, and it looks like being quite a fun event.
The Challenge is open to both bowlers and non-bowlers, and is suitable for families, young teens, friends and workmates.
And if you don’t have a team, single or couple entries are very welcome, too (the club will find a team for you).
There’ll be a one-off $20 team registration fee for the Autumn Challenge, and green fees are $8 per person per night, which includes a light supper.
The Autumn Challenge offers great prizes, lucky draws and raffles, and loan bowls and coaching are provided free.
To help new players get up to speed, Kingaroy Bowls Club will also be holding a free coaching session on Sunday, March 13, at 10:00am.
Just bring along soft-soled shoes, thongs or go barefoot – everything else is supplied.

Murgon News
On Saturday, February 27, the Murgon Bowls Club partnered with the Murgon Golf Club in a joint fundraising day for the next Burrumbuttock Hay Run.
The Hay Run will deliver free hay to drought-stricken farmers at Ilfracombe on April 1, and a South Burnett contingent will be joining the 140km-long convoy of 240 prime movers that will be carting the hay out west.
Like many bowls clubs, Murgon Bowls has seen many old members retire and move away in recent years and there has not been enough new members coming on board to fill the vacancies.
However, the Burrumbuttock day did turn up a surprising ray of hope, which was that was that roughly 25 per cent more participants opted for a game of bowls than a round of golft.
Murgon Bowls Club president Alan Mitchell said the club has been trying to broaden its appeal in the community by staging social events at the clubhouse, and introducing fun novelty bowls events that hold appeal for bowlers and non-bowlers alike.
The club’s newest members are Terry and Roza Lear who decided to join recently when they tried bowls and found it was a genuinely fun way to exercise and socialise at the same time.
PS: The fundraiser generated something between $10,000 and $15,000 to help defray fuel costs for the hay run – the organisers are still tallying up the proceeds to arrive at a final figure.
