St John’s “Starry Starry Night” trivia night on Friday was anything but trivial – despite all the wacky costumes – with organisers aiming to raise more than $8000 for the Lutheran School in Kingaroy.

This is the third year the school’s Parents & Friends association has held a trivia night.

P&F president Justine Francis said the first year there were 19 tables, last year this had grown to 21, and on Friday 38 tables (or more than 300 people) were booked in.

“We’re very happy with the increase,” she said.

“And we are also very grateful for all the help from our sponsors. The local community has been fantastic.”

The money raised will be put towards buying more laptops for the school’s ICT program.

Justine said more than $8500 worth of items had been donated as prizes.

The event has been in the planning for three months, and some of the teams must have been planning their costumes for almost as long.

Some had a Vincent Van Gogh feel (complete with bandaged ears or artists’ berets), while others were decidedly astronomical.

There were also flashing stars, pop stars, paparazzi (chasing stars), cricket stars, sports stars etc.
