Health consultant Leith MacMillan, appointed earlier this month to take over the development of the Lady Bjelke-Petersen Community Hospital, met with South Burnett mayor Wayne Kratzmann and local doctors in Kingaroy at the weekend.

The mayor said Ms MacMillan and another consultant from her company then inspected the empty facility.

“I think they were stunned by the quality of the building,” Mayor Kratzmann told southburnett.com.au

He said critics of the Council’s plan to re-open the hospital should take a walk through the facility to see exactly how much was there.

Mayor Kratzmann said the consultants took away with them the charter detailing what Council wants to achieve.

He said he had also received some good news, ie. the hospital would not have to reapply for accreditation with health funds.

“That accreditation goes with the licence,” he said.

He hoped a business plan could be developed and the licence transfer submitted before the end of February.

Mayor Kratzmann said Queensland Health had also been “amazing”, helping to identify gaps in the local health system and services that are missing.

He said the Private Hospital “shouldn’t have any impact on the Budget”.

“It’s looking very promising,” he said.
