The driver of a semi-trailer was lucky to escape with only minor injuries when his truck and trailer overturned on the D’Aguilar Highway, near Benarkin, in the early hours of Friday morning.

The vehicle was carrying two 11.5 tonne concrete bearers for the South Burnett Regional Council’s Campbells Road bridge reconstruction project across Barambah Creek at Silverleaf.

Emergency workers were called to the scene about 3:30am to find the vehicle upside down by the side of the road, with the cabin of the prime mover flattened.

Ambulance paramedics treated the driver for chest bruising before transporting him to hospital for observation.

SES volunteers diverted light traffic via Old Esk Road for several hours from 9:00am while Claytons Towing righted and removed the badly damaged truck.
