Brisbane Valley Rail Trail advocate Paul Heymans has backed the South Burnett Regional Council’s plan to bitumen the 42km link between Kingaroy and Murgon.
Council voted on Wednesday to accept a $635,000 tender from a local business to undertake the work.
Mr Heymans admitted he would “fight tooth and nail” if anyone suggested that the Brisbane Valley trail be sealed.
“It’s much more of an adventure trail,” he said.
However, he said the Kingaroy to Murgon link would be a different experience, which would prove popular with families and children.
“It will be a safe environment for mum and dad and the kids,” he said.
Mr Heymans said it would work in well with the experience on the BVRT.
He urged local businesses to get behind the rail trail, with cafes, bike shops etc along the route.
Mr Heymans also endorsed a suggestion put forward by Cr Barry Green at the Council meeting that Council should work towards linking the Kingaroy-Kilkivan trail to Yarraman, the start of the BVRT.
He said a possible route had already been identified.
