Toowoomba Mayor Paul Antonio says Toowoomba Regional Council has no intention of closing any of its regional depots.
The Council recently announced it would construct a new depot at Nass Road at Charlton to replace the ageing Toowoomba site at Harristown.
“Council continues to look at how we can best serve the needs of our community,” Mayor Antonio said.
“Late last year we decided to begin the process to replace the very aged facilities at our Harristown depot with a new facility at Charlton to support all Council operations.
“The Charlton location will provide greater connectivity to major transport links, including the corridor for the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing and rapidly expanding industrial zone on Toowoomba’s western edge.”
The new depot forms part of an ongoing strategy focussed around the location and functionality of all TRC depots.
“While we need to make sure we keep a close eye on efficiency and operational needs, there is a strong will within this Council to maintain the existing depots in our smaller townships,” Mayor Antonio said.
“I want to make it clear that there are no plans to close any of the depots across the region.
“Council will be able to co-ordinate operations more efficiently at the new Charlton centre and also offer a safer work environment for Council staff, in conjunction with our regional depots.”
