The Cooyar War Memorial will be one of five State Heritage-listed war memorials which will be upgraded in the Toowoomba Council region this year thanks to a State Government grant.

Toowoomba Regional Council successfully applied for funding through the Queensland Anzac Centenary community grants program to conserve and maintain the memorials.

TRC Parks and Recreation Services portfolio leader Cr Sue Englart said the grants, in addition to Council funds, would allow minor restoration work to be completed at Cooyar, Goombungee, Greenmount and Nobby.

A fifth memorial, at Westbrook, which is located close to the northern wall of the Westbrook Hall would be shifted to a more suitable location a short distance away.

Cr Englart said the restoration to the Cooyar Memorial, which was unveiled in 1923, would be completed before Anzac Day.

However this would be dependent on weather, the availability of specialist trades and final approval from the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection.
